To meet the needs of newcomers and low-income families facing harsh Canadian winters, Council 11078 in Val-d’Or, Quebec launched a free thrift store providing donated clothing and winter essentials. Families are referred by local social services and receive not only warm clothing but also guidance on how to dress for the extreme cold. The council partnered with a local kickboxing gym that offered free space, creating a meaningful exchange of support. To date, the initiative has helped more than 200 families and distributed over 4,000 items. For their impact, Council 11078 was honored with the Knights' 2025 Community Program of the Year Award.
